Fair enough. If people didn't have their preferences and loyalties the industries wouldn't exist. Just from my experiences (and I've been riding since diapers) we've always had Cats and always had strong sleds.
And as I've said before I'm totally new to this ATV thing (to be honest I wasn't even all that interested in them until I had to use them for work, and now I'm starting to get hooked) and so I don't know what each brand has to offer. Although Polaris (and in particular the Sportsman 500 EFI x2 H.O.) has a lot of options to offer the barebone performance is poor. Perhaps its just a bad luck but its left a bad taste in my mouth.

I haven't heard of a cc limit for ORV's in Michigan, unless it's a federal regulation. Being that production snowmobiles are 1000cc, sportbikes are up to 1400cc, 2300cc for a Triumph Rocket III, and there's a 240hp supercharged jetski, I don't think there's anything stopping a manufacturer from making a 1000cc ATV.
That's just my two cents. LOL!!

From what I was told today the new Arctic cat 950 V Twin EFI is entirely their own design. Supposedly it is wicked fast in a fairly heavy machine and is radically detuned from the factory.
Everyone is going to be playing catch up for a bit from the sound of it.
Can-Am can supposedly work over the 800 Rotax to somewhere in the 1000cc range using the same basic architecture.
Kawi just released their new EFI 750 Brute Force.
The new 700 Grizzly just came on the market
We've all seen the pictures of a Suzuki King Quad with a 750? (it was a 750 wasn't it?).
All of those with the exception of the mythical 1000cc Outlander kinda seem less than spectacular when compared with a 950cc V twin.
That is really jumping ahead of the competition in a big way.
I'd also add if their marketing people purposely put up the information up on the website for a while and then yanked it back down it after it generated some traffic it was a masterful bit of marketing. They have some people who really know how to exploit the power of the internet. Everyone I know who is into ATVs was talking about this today. "Hey did you hear AC has a 950 cc? yeah they accidentally put it up on their website..." If it was an accident their marketing people (and other marketing types) need to be paying attention.
All that said, I wish Polaris would have put an engine like this in the 2008 Sportsman. The 760 is looking positively mundane now. Sad thing is I doubt they'll even bump it up to an actual 800 CCs.

It is called the Thundercat 1000. 952cc's, V-twin made by Arctic Cat in St. Cloud, MN. Price of $10,500!!!
The limit that some states have for an ATV of no more then 800 is just BS. Minnesota has that rule and yet the new Thundercat will still be sold here. It is just classified different, but can still run on 95% of the same trails.

Heheheh. Just think. One of these days, probably in a few years, when they have the 1500cc ATVs out they'll be calling the 800 Class machines mid-size and the 400 - 500 class machines small with everything up to 400 being a mini. I love Polaris and I absolutely adore my new 'Cat. But it's all a bit much. How big can we make them?! Quad Wars: The Next Generation!

the Thundercat 950 is an ATV indeed. It was on their website accidentally and i talked to my friend at AC about it also. a 950 cc v-twin efi or arctic cats own making. same size as any other machine they make just huge *** engine. it will be classified as a class 2 atv not ORV in mn at least. IT IS NOT A SLED.
