Does it really matter, AS LONG YOU LIKE WHAT YOU DRIVE THATS WHAT MATTERS.

It really does not matter to me what the magazines say. On the trail and in the mud, the Rubicon is not comparable in my opinion. The SP500HO rides much smoother and the Ground clearance and true 4WD make it the best Utility on the market. We all have opinions, and this is mine.

If Yamaha releases a 660 Liquid Cooled Grizzly with fully independent suspension, lockable front differential and disk brakes, we may have a contender but until someone steps up to the plate, I will continue to ride Polaris.

Your opinion sounds to a very fair one.In the type of mud you ride in i could see the advantages the sportsman 500 has over the rubicon, but the type mud we have here where i live can be very diff.then your's,it is very soft with no bottom and we ride with sportsmans and we have even seen the low slung honda 400 have the upper hand in those sittuations because of the weight and the low clutch engagement.have a great new year.

goattrotter,

You have nailed it. One quad isn't the best in every situation. People make a big deal out of mud riding. This is ok, but where we live there is not a lot of mud riding. What does this mean? To me I don't need the best mud quad because its not high on my list of prioritys. To me power is important. Thats why I am looking into a new Kawasaki this spring.

I saw a test between the rancher and wolverine, they said the wolf was fasted, handled better, stronger, funner to ride, etc. Pretty much the wolf out preformed the rancher in every test but the rancher was better according to them.

00' Wolverine(selling for 500 Scrambler)

Post what you like.. The Sportsman is the best wheeler for TRUE off-road all-around performance. Yes, with performance comes more maintenance; but WHO is scared of maintenance??? ANY performance vehicle requires maintenance. If you can't turn a wrench then buy something less than the SP.... IF you have the cash: Get ready! SP700 will appear and dismiss each post in this topic. Save your fingers: I know the SP isn't released yet. But some things are meant to be...(sorry ) Current releases are not in the race.. ride'em hard Polcat

Check out this comment made by ATV magazine,2001 ATV buyers guide. Here's what these folks said about the 2001 Xplorer 400cc 4x4,

This utility machine uses an oil injected, liquid cooled 400 two-stroke engine. The power plants sound and strength give this machine a sporty ''feel''but it's far from being fast.

Can you beleive this BS?What other utility quad will take the Xplorer? How do these idiots rank with their opionions?I bet they never even rode one!Anyways, magazines?????

Hey Bill~
I remember reading that also! It seems like Dirtwheels and 4 Wheel Action are always making stupid comments! The 400 Explorer will not be beat by any other utility machine made today! My local dealer even raced it against a new SP500HO and it was ahead of the "mighty" 500HO at every point of the race! Hell, I'm pretty sure it has more peak hp than the 500 and every other utility machine also! I think the 400 is underrated and is even more versitile than the scrambler! It has more "sport" and just as much "utility" as any other strictly utility machine! In my mind, it is the best utility machine for the money! It's sad that all the 2 strokes are slowly being taken over by 4 strokes.
