Default 700sp vs 650 can-am

since my 06 500 efi sp and my brothers also ( same bike different color, pics r on my page) was in a wreck we are trying to decide on what to get next either the 700($6000) or the 800($6900)
also how does the 700 stands up against the 650 can-am? I ask this because a guy in our riding camp trading in his king quad 450 ( 500 sp efi was king his ***) on a 650 can-am

Stock for stock the 650 can-am has 10 more hp then the 700 polaris and to make it worse the can-am is a fair bit lighter.

I raced my 700 against a 650 and lets just say I wasen't to happy with the outcome.

I know as soon as my 700 is fixed it's going down the road and there will be a 800 outlander in my shop.

In a race I'm sure the 650 would out run the 700. The 700 has a better ride and alot better 4wd system. The visco lock on the can am is not all its cracked up to be. Hook that 700 and 650 up together and watch what happens. To me the only thing the 650 has over the 700 is speed.

Yup that is basically all the 650 has on the 700 which is SPEED! Wonder how close the race would be if the 700 was lighter?

OK OK help me understand the need to race a utility quad. I know its always fun to whip the crap out of your friends but thats not what they are made for.

Or did I buy the wrong quad? I know I know mine is only a 450 and will always get whipped but I didnt buy to race it.

To me it's kinda like racing Hummers (real hummers not the little baby hummers you see roaming the streets). Dont really get .........guess I am too old LOL

Have fun with your quests dudes!! ride on ******!

our two 35 year old cousins was on them, my cousin on the black one(my brothers) came to a sudden stop from about 40-45mph, and my cousin that was on mines could not react in time and plowed in to him. Both were hurt pretty bad, but no major bones were broke, only a toe.
About the racing, we dont race like we r on a drag strip or nothin like that, but the guy in our lil riding club traded in his king-quad 450 because our 500 sp efi whipped him up a week before the wreck. Put it like this i got up to 65 going doing a hill and passed him like he was standing still.
And now that we have a chance to get something else, we might get the sp 800 efi's

I'd lean towards the sportsman 700-- the can-am has speed, but thats it. Towing, cooling (oil and water), ride quality, overall comfort are much better. The extra ~100lbs on the sportsman makes it ride better and tow better.

What kind of riding do you do?

I rode an Outlander 650 Max two days ago. The EFI was super nice, the ride was very comfortable with front and rear suspension on ramp #2, and the power was awesome. The only reason I didn't trade my 500 for it right then and there was because of how much better the Polaris AWD system is than the Viscolock. I am still going to trade to either a 700 or 800 Sportsman or 650 Outlander, I might just wait until 2008 to see if the improved Viscolock is that much better.

This is not a bash to anyone that likes polaris,as I do Like the bike and it's a tank basically unstoppable and built to last.
The only one thing that has turned me off polaris is tha front diff, yes it works good and it's the only full time 4 wheeler out there, but the problem is because it locks both, it buts major strain on the front diff and this leads to failures.

Once you install real mud tires and use those tires to there limits, the front just can't hack it,with stock tires or just slightly better tires there is no problem.
But bolt on a set of outlaws or vampires and head for the heavy goo and it's breaksville.

Thats where a visco's lock or limited slip wins out, by allowing the load to be deverted before failure.

Now can the bombi or any other quad have front diff problems?? that would be a big yes, but I have to say this diff design on the polaris leaves something to be desired when it comes to a flimsy little plastic cage holding it all togther.

I have been told that back in 02 polaris used a aluminum gage that very rearly failed, and guess what? the # for that part has been superseeded to the new plastic cage.
Why??
I would say that because it's good for parts sales other wise they would still be using them.

This is just my opinion so please don't go postal on me for this, because as I said if it wasen't for the front diff the bike would be almost perfect.
