Noise coming from CVT on '07 Hawkeye
#1
I just started getting a noise from the belt drive. The noise is coming from the CVT cover. It isn't a whine, it is more of a "whurring" noise, IF that's a word noise
It ran fine all day yesterday, and after I washed it down it sounded normal. This morning I started it up and the noise was there. There was/is no water in the housing. It still runs normal, just when it is idling down the noise starts, but stops when the RPM gets to idle speed. It sounds like a bearing going out to me, anything else it might be?

You know it may be that bearing, or the clutch rollers got real dirty or muddy and are grinding</end quote></div>
Well after reading your post on the removal of two rollers I went ahead and pulled the cover off. It is the case cover bearing. Damn cheap Chinese bearing! I hate to take the cover back to the dealer and have them fix it under warranty if all they're going to do is put another junk Chinese bearing back in it's place. The thing only has 31 hours on it.
I might go to Motion Industries here in Indy and get a replacement bearing that isn't junk and fix it myself.

I found a bearing at Motion Industries here in Indy. The bearing is a standard metric bearing. I bought an NSK #6203DDUC3. It is an AMERICAN made bearing and has a better double lip seal. The spec's are for temps up to 158*C, and 12,000 rpm.
FYI, the bearing that failed was a Chinese bearing, and I pulled the seals off of it and found there was little or no grease in it. It had galled the outer race some. If you have the CVT cover off, I would recommend replacing this bearing to be safe. It only cost $8, and I'm just glad if failed AFTER I had got home.

What is the easiest way to remove the bearing?</end quote></div>
I went to Harbor Freight and bought a slide Hammer type bearing/seal puller. It ran about $18. The bearing came out real easy after removing the snap ring.
While the new and old bearing's OD miked the same it slide fairly easy down into the cover. I took a punch and "dinged" the covers bearing surface in a couple of places to help lock the outer race in place. I kept feeling the cover while riding this morning to see if there was any excess heat buildup where the bearing rides. Everything seemed normal.

No I didn't have any knocking sound, just the whurring noise of the bad bearing. I'm no expert but the knocking noise might be the rollers moving back and forth in the clutch.
Is it a knocking sound, or more like a "clacking" sound? Any noise other than the bad bearing I had has been a clacking sound and it is the rollers in the clutch at start up. Only at start up though.
