Default 2003 Sportsman 700 no speedo

Just picked up a nice 700 with 109 hours on the display, hours are working fine, but the speedo needle does not move and the odometer is not working.

Did the routine stuff, cleaned the speed sensor and unplugged/plugged the sensor back in to the speedo unit - no luck.

4wd drive does work,

Bad speedo, or sensor?

Thanks,

its a toss up but would lean toward the sensor as alot of times the awd doesnt work either but i have read where the speedo was gone but the awd did work. wonder if theres a way to test that sensor? maybe saomeone w/ a service manual could tell ya assuming there all about the same in the bikes.

Did you get anywhere with your speedo problem? I'm having the same issue with my 03 700. Local dealer told me it was the speedohead, so I found a used one, but same problem - no speed indicator, no odometer and my hour meter doesn't work although eveything else on the speed seems ok. If you come up with anything can you share it. Thanks

You probably have a bad sensor. If you unplug the sensor and use a jumper wire between the two terminals on the plug, you should be able to peg the needle all the way over. if it doesnt move, it probably isnt the sensor.

I hope you do. No one else has in 11 years. There's no telling if they got it fixed or not.
