Good news,,, the problem seems to be solved. I've got good speed AND low end torque. It seems to have a little extra slip during the transition but I can live with that,,, unless it's an easy fix.
Just a tip for anyone in the same situation. Pay close attention to the direction of preload on the clutch. If you get it wrong,,, you're in for a wild ride when decelerating!!! It jumps back & forth between high & low gear!!! Ask me how I know that,,, ha ha ;-)
