Scrambler 500 2x4
#1
The recent topics about Scrambler 500s have made me rather curious. You see, I've been considering acquiring a Sport machine to go along with my 'Cat. I, however, want an automatic, a fact which narrows the field down considerably. The Renegade looks good, but is too new and obscenely priced. But, that's off the subject. I'm just wondering about the performance value of a Scrambler 2x4 and what it would take, without going into the engine beyond porting and polishing, to make it compete equally with a Predator 500.

Never happen without big bore, compression, & cam. The Scrambler has a 200 lb. weight disadvantage for starters. 2nd, it's chassis is based on Polaris' utility line, so it will never handle like a true sport quad. 3rd, the auto trans. holds it back in throttle response.
Now, as a Scrambler owner I love mine. It's not a master in any catagory, but does well everywhere. It has gobs of torque, handles OK, & rides super cushy. If you want a sport quad, buy a sport quad. If you want a do it all decent quad, buy a Scrambler. With an agressive clutch kit & a pipe it will give a good ride, but definately not Predator-ish.

a 2x4 scrammy is about 55lbs lighter than a 4x4 & when
moded can run ok with some of the sport quads but not
with a predator, they are just to fast & quick, scrammies
are not light, they are just a great all around quad, fun
with enough power to keep a little grin on your face. u
may want to think about the 2 stroke 400 2x4 scrammy
they are lighter yet than the 500 & can be easy to mod
& plenty of people on this forum can tell u how to make
them really rip!!! they just won't handle like the preddy.

I had actually meant to put in my post that I wouldn't try to keep up on a track. I know it wouldn't do it. Dragging is what I'm after. I was rather hoping to overcome the weight deficiency. But, thanks for the responses!

For drags and power think about a 400 and drop about $1500 into mods and NOTHING will hang with you.
The 500 is more lowend grunt and trail machine the 400 is mid to topend hold on tight. When modded right.

I have been considering one. I knew with a few minor mods it should keep up positively well with the Predator. I've found a few for between three and four grand. So that's my other option. Really I keep hoping for Polaris to make an automatic performance machine. But that's not looking like it's going to happen.
