brake question?
#1
I forgot how much brake my 2004.5 sportsman 700 used to have? It seems to me like it used to have more. I give the brakes all they have and the tires don't lock up. Did they used to or are they suppose to? I played with the bleeding thing a little, not that I know what I am doing, and nothing changed. Any advise or help would be appreciated,

I checked the pads they appear to be thicker than the width of a quarter. How big are they supposed to be? I cleaned then up with brake cleaner and they did better. I just want to know are they brakes suppose to be able to lock up the wheels?

they are over half worn out by the sounds. yes they should be able pretty much to lock up the wheels. new brakes pads would help but if you still have good brakes w/out locking wheels then ride it some more that way if you feel comfortable w/ it.

Being the bike is a 2004 I would bleed out all the brake fluid and top up with new dot 3 brake fluid. Make sure all the air is bled out. I find over time the brakes will become spongy which I think is condensation in the system. I flushed then bled mine and have better feel in the brake lever again. Mine will lock up and drag the wheels no problem.....
