It sounds like it might be running lean an the piston is burn out the way to check it is to remove the pipe an look in the cyclender an turn it over. My friend had the same problems but his was doing because it didn't have high enough octane

I can tell you what your problem is right now, the same thing happened to me and it has nothing to do with you compression.
It is the spark plug the stock b8es is to hot of a plug to run in the winter go up to a cooler plug. In my scrambler for the winter I'm running a br9es, now I can torture it without fear of it dying.
What happens is the plug your running now gets hot to the point where it cant spark right, in return your machine dies.

jbark35, when it died, did it backfire? We were out New Years Day, I on my new DS and my brother on my 400 Scrambler 2x4. I was behind him when I heard a backfire and the quad stopped. I went up to him to see what happened. I tried to start it, then I pulled the pull start and it felt like nothing. This morning I tore into it and found a piston failure, not lean, filter was ok and coolent was ok also. It was on the outlet side also. Called the dealer and he has a .10 over wisco instock and can punch it out tomorrow for me. It'll be back up for this weekend.
Jbark35, using the pull start cord. Try and pull a couple of time, if it pulls real easy. You know the deal. Also, pull the plug and check it, put your finger over the spark plug hole and pull start it again. It should have a strong Suck & Push feel to it. Good Luck!
