I have a 05 800 Sportsman I just bought. Went riding at a park after a couple of hours it died on me, it would restart but kicked and sputtered and died. I checked the gas it was half full and when I opened the cap air pushed out. THe vent tube I've checked and it's fine. When I'd let it cool for about 15 to 20 minutes it would start up and run fine for another hour or so and do it again.
Any ideas?

the fuel pump is going bad. when it heats up it shuts dowwn. more common in the 05' 800 then the 06'. but this is just a guess.

how common on the 2004's ?

 

ive seen a few post on the 04' efi 700 w/ a bad fuel pump. i know the month my 08' was made they changed fuel pumps in midstream(go figure mine was 10 days off) w/ a differnt pump so maybe they found out they were having bad ones 4 years later.
