500 ho backfiring

500 ho backfiring

A bud just picked up a used 500ho, I think 2003. When in reverse it backfires pretty badly. Press the overide it runs fine. Any idea what's up with it?

He will also notice no AWD in reverse unless the override is pressed .

its a speed safety override so you cant go fast in reverse until its pushed and like tlc said no awd drive unless you push and hold the button in.
