Scary thought!- - -Judgement Day?
#21
Talk about timing....I posted on here last night. This morning I got a call from a riding buddy. It seems that about ten of them went for a ride yesterday while I skipped out. Everything was going fine until one of the guys hit a patch of ice on a fire road in a curve, lost control and somehow ended up with a 2000 model Kodiak sitting straddle on him.
To make a long story short, they said it took a couple of hours before they actually got him down off the hill to a medivac helicopter that was waiting for him, to transport him to the hospital.
I went to see him in the hospital today and he talked about what great care the fellow riders had taken of him. It seems one guy had one of those space blankets that looks like aluminum foil. Another guy had(believe it or not) a small portable propane heater. They were able to at least keep him warm while waiting on help. It may not sound like much, but to a guy who just broke his pelvic bone, hip and socket also with seriously brused ribs.....laying on the frozen ground for what must have seemed like an eternity....this was a big deal.
Luckily, these guys were riding with him and not me. I wouldn't have been this prepared.
It sure makes you think....
