Default New bike for a thirteen year old girl

Yes Sir. When I got my sled license at 12 I had the Lynx and when I survived the first winter, Pops got me a year old XLT for Christmas. I was defintitly the coolest kid on the block. To be completely honest, the only real accident I have ever had was on my Scrambler. Around the same time I started mixing booze and riding without a helmet. Now I ALWAYS wear a lid and take it easy on the booze while riding.

I think that the atv's are much safer than the sleds. I have had everything from a 78 440 yami exciter to a 2001 tcat 1k with over 230 hp. I can live with my 12 year old on his wolvy 450 but really struggle with the idea of him on a sled that will do 100 mph. I have wrecked huge on sleds and count myself lucky that my injuries were minimal. At 43 years of age, I know that the wrecks on the sleds coupled with the sports I played are responsible for the knee and shoulder surgeries I have had over the years. I want to get back into the sleds but fear my sons need for speed which is what caused me to crash as a kid and into my late 20's. The atv's are far more controllable and I feel I have far more control over the situation when he is following me. Even the 500cc sleds are way faster than they used to be.

The only time I miss a sled is when I'm on the lake on a crisp day with a nice 1/2 mile track plowed down the the ice. There is nothing more of a rush than a few 130mph passes. I've made a few passes with the bike and 50mph on ice is pretty cool, but nothing compares to the speed of a sled. Now when it comes time to get the hut out on the lake in a foot and a half of snow, I'll take the bike thanks.

Now MUDHOG, to be honest, I've witnessed and came across more serious accidents on the bike than on the sleds. Must be just my luck, but I seem to see more blood in the summer than in the winter.

I held a young ladies head and neck still for over a 45 minutes waiting for ambulances to arrive in June. She had massive head/skull injuries, a broken jaw, internal injuries and a broken hip. The only reason I think she lived was because the wisconsin dnr atv fatality report never showed the accident. I have 10's of thousands more miles on a sled than on an atv and know a couple of people who have died on sleds. Like I have said in numerous posts before, speed kills. The same trees are lining the trails in the summer as they are in the winter and the people who hit them in the winter are doing 2.5 x's faster than the people in the summer. I still say the sleds are far more dangerous than the atv's.

Well, let's face it, both are awesome sports and can be extremely dangerous if you don't exercise caution. Most things in life that are this exhilerating have a dangerous element to them.

If someone is a good rider, let them get what they want and can afford. I'm 13(14 in October), and I'm getting a Yamaha Rhino 700(if they come out) or a Yamaha Grizzly 700. I've been riding quads since I was five, and I started on a 125 Honda.
