i plow my drieway with my scrammy and it does great. i have plenty of mods done, all of them are easy. alot of your power to the ground power is gained thru proper clutching. in stock form they are clutched rather conservatively. a clutch kit can give you instant seat of the pants feel, and make your trail ride much more sporty.
theres plenty of mods available, and they wont effect your reliability.

how could you gain power without speed.
Adding power doesn't change your gearing! Redline is redline!
Muffler/airbox/clutching etc.. all add power but don't raise the redline.</end quote></div>
It dont work like that with a Polaris 4x4 system.Change the gear ratio and it messes up the 4x4.You can get more rpms by clutching but the motor wont stand much over 6800.

I've been the original owner of a 2001 Scrambler 500 4X4. I put about 750+ miles (HARD miles at that) on the machine a year and other than this year, I've only done oil changes and general lubing (which is extremely important!)
I just took it in; had a tune up, rear pads and tie rod ends replaced. No biggy.
I also plow my corner lot with it. The machine is not built for this (because there is no gear like a Sportsman), but as long as you take it easy and don't burn up the belt, you'll be fine. I've done parking lots with it when my buddy couldn't use his truck for his business.
I ride with about 15 guys when I go up and honestly, everyone of them has a different machine (which I've test driven all). If I were going out to get another quad, I have no doubt it would be another Scrambler. It's a perfect machine.
And regarding your size. I'm 260lbs. I just tweaked my rear spring (easily done by twisting a nut) to increase the stiffness so the rear didn't sag to much. It has enough stock power for everything you'll need.
