Last year I put a pipe and clutch kit on my ride and this year I'm planning on putting a new carb on it as well. Just wondering if anyone has done this and what kind of results did you see?

I'm thinking of going with the Kehin 39mm PWK over the Mikuni 38mm TMX. I really don't want to get into porting, billet heads and all that stuff (yet). Is this a worth while step, seeing that I don't plan on having the head ported or anything like that? Or will it be a waste of money with out the other upgrades?

I may have a chance to buy my 34mm stock carb back(I sold it to PAPAUL for his Trailblazer 250), just wondering, thanks.

I don't have a scrambler 400 but i have a xplorer 400. I have a hpd pipe for a 2000 scrambler on mine, reed cage, clutch kit,39mm pwk carb and many other mods. The 39mm carb gave my bike more mid to top end power. I can really feel the difference over my stock 34mm carb. If you want more top end go with the 39mm. Also the 39mm just barely fit on my bike. Any bigger will not fit. It's pretty tight in there. I would say buy it, you'll notice a huge difference.

Sounds like you have a pretty killer machine MEANGREENMACHINE. Thnanks for the reply, I pretty much have my heart set on the Kehin 39mm PWK over the Mikuni 38mm TMX (heard a few bad rumors about it). I've been trying to reach Rick Ritter to see if he has any in stock, but he hasn't replied yet. I've heard good things about him, as far as assisting you after the purchase, so I'll probably give him a week or so before I buy it from HPD. Thanks again.

If I remember right I heard Rick say if you have a question to call him he always answers the phone and from what I have heard here he really takes the time to discuss things with his customers. He probably gets tons of emails so your best bet is to call him....

Good Luck,

Triston

Why don't you simply (and cheaply) rebore your 38mm carb? If I were you, I'd go in some handling improvements. My pal changed front shocks (to Works...I think) and springs all around (Hot Seat), it made a big difference...

Zorro, I've already sold the stock carb to PAPAUL for his Trailblazer. I definitely would have thought about boring it out rather than buying a new carb if it would have been the Mikuni 38mm TMX but unfortunatley the 2K 400 Scramblers come with the Mikuni 34mm stock. I believe the 500 comes stock with the 38mm. Thanks for the suggestion though and keep 'em comin'.
