Glowing Header Pipe on '07 700 EFI ???
It was almost dark out last evening, and I took my new '07 700 EFI on a short ride (about 1/2 mile) to my brother-in-law's house. It was all easy going... Half throttle and under, with some hills. When I rolled to a stop infront of him, he was pointing at my engine. I turned it off and jumped off to look at it. the entire exhaust Y-pipe that connects to the engine was glowing cherry-red. I could see it getting dimmer pretty quickly as it cooled, but when i first got off to look at it, it was pretty bright red. I started it back up to check for an obstructed exhaust. There was no blockage. Anyone else notice this??? is it normal? The machine runs PERFECTLY.Any ideas?

I know its not the same machine, but my 02 700 sportsman carb did the same thing. I can say that I went through 2 y-pipes and a whole exhaust pipe in 4000 miles due to the pieces warping and cracking. I think its because I hit water when they were red hot.

Too LEAN!!! It may run fine, but if it's getting hot enough that it will make the header glow, then it's definitely lean. The header pipe may also be made with very thin material. I'd take it in, there has got to be a away to have the FI programmed for a more ideal fuel mixture.

most of the polaris models usually come rich form the factory to protect them form burning down, so it sounds like to me its running way too lean to cause it to turn the pipe red hot. i know on older 700's people were changing to the 800 pipe as it has a bigger opening for freer flowing exhaust.
