It sounds like the deal is no more or did Polaris keep 25% of KTM stocks before going there separate ways?

 

Polaris sold back 20%, so still own 5%. They are still working together as far as parts, but no joint venture for any model together.

 

Why is this? No Dice? Dont get along? seems like two great companies making one great product to me

Merging companies from different countries can be more problematic than one may believe it to be at first glance. The corporate culture of the two companies are many times quite different and that can cause all sorts of problems at nearly all levels of both of the organizations. One might think it wouldn't be as bad when merging the corporate structures of a European company as opposed to a Japanese or Korean one but the differences and difficulties can be quite surprising and difficult to resolve. Just dealing with overseas offices or divisions within a company can be difficult enough.

Many a merger or business deal like the one between KTM and Polaris which has been hatched by board members at a conference table has fallen apart when the Grand Plans are actually implemented by those lower on the food chain. People and corporate cultures sometimes just don't mesh. It is one thing to have these Grand Plans but implementing them and making them work in a practical sense on a daily basis can be extremely difficult and not as fruitful as they seemed as everyone sat around that conference table.
