Best spark plug?
#11
I have a buddy who runs a service department for a dealership and he gave me a new product to try. It's a Champion Powersport plug. I am the same way with spark plugs, when something works, why change? So it took him some convincing to get me to test the plugs. Suprisingly there was a huge improvement. I had now fouling problems and alot more response when going from idle to WOT. The plugs have an inductive suppressor rather than a solid resistor for RFI suppression which translates to more spark energy and longer arc duration. They also have a fine wire center electrode designed to ionize the spark gap easier resulting in better fouling resistance. I liked it so much I got Powersport plugs for my sled and dirt bike too. The only thing is, I guess the plug is fairly new and sometimes hard to find. Has anyone else tried these? I contacted a Polaris wholesale supplier and he requested the same plug. Tell me what you think.

I myself use a NGK Platinum plug more life.
I put it in when i bought my 00 Scrambler 500
a year ago and it works just as good as the day I bought it.
they are a little more expensive but the life expectency of a platinum plug is probly twice as long no power difference though

Is there anywhere in NW Ohio that I can buy the Champion Powersport plugs? I have an old snowmobile that likes to foul plugs and would like to try these in it. I doubt these will benefit my 4 stroke atvs as they don't foul the NGK plugs out.

MagnumMudMan,
The Powersport line seems to be pretty scarce. I know any Napa can order them, but I'm sure your local dealership can order them too. Tell them to order them out of the Champion catalogue. That's where my buddy got them from.

I'm an NGK beleiver, but the new Champions used on the Polaris domestic twin sleds is VERY impressive. We tried them in a 700 MXZ and the MX with these plugs wouldn't get walloped as bad (actually ran right with) out of the hole against a very well prepped XC600sp. The benefit to the 2 stroke is it is a dual range that gets hot quicker.
I am told that these plugs in a Cat twin can burn pistons.
Proceed with caution!

Polaris snowmobiles that come standard with a Champion RN57YC or RN57YCC spark plug must use these plugs. NGK doesn't have an equivalent to these plugs. Their catalogue calls out a BPR9EVX, or any B-type plug with a 9 heat range. But here's a warning, the RN57YC is two heat ranges colder than the NGK plug. This difference is enough to burn down the engine if the NGK 9-heat range plug is used. Also that will probably void all warranties if you burn down an engine with an incorrect plug.
As far as the Champion Powersport line goes, there is no equivalent to the standard Champion RN57YC spark plug. But the 8902 Powersport plug is equivalent to the NGK B-type 9 heat range plugs. They seemed to have a Powersport plug for every application I could think of, but they just aren't advertised. If anybody tries them out, tell me what you think of them. Like I said earlier, I noticed a big advantage with them. I talked to my buddy that owns a dealership and he said that when his orders are not in he gets them from AutoZone or even Walmart and Meijer.
