Default Sp carb troubles

Hey guys I havent been on in a while. My 96 Sportsman 500 has some carb problems, the slide wont pull all the way open. It will seldomly and run great. I think the carb is shot. Any Ideas? It has about 4000 miles. New piston rings, cam.

Ive adjusted the cables a few times, I am not sure if that is the problem. I cannot see any holes in the diaphram, but that is what it seems like. If I take the carb apart and reassemble it will usually run good for a while, then its back to no power at all...

could have varnish build up from bad gas. take the carb apart and use very fine steel whool to polish everthing.you can get it at wal-mart or lowe's hardware

Yep, replaced that too. Its just weird that it will run great at times. But Its definitely a fuel issue. Ive gone through pretty much all I can think of, not really wanting to spend 300 on a new carb.
