I have owned alot of quads.

But having this machine for 5.8 hrs i feel that having 2 flat tires is just crazy.

Now i do ride hard ...but come on.

I have ordered new tires [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

 

the pxt tires are pretty good tires but there only a 3 ply tire there for they do get alot of punctures in them.

 

I can confirm that too! Seriously, 2blue if ya don't already
carry a cheap tire plug kit (p/u one for under $5 at the
auto stores, walmart or hardware stores). It saved my big fat butt,
several times! Riding hard pack up on the mountains in Western, MD/VA
I punctured my tires with side wall tears, hitting and pounding
those sharp ridges of rock embedded in the ground.

To add to that, I was so nervous about how easy the tears were
and my weight factor that I like you just went out and bought
a new rear left tire after this flaky deal with a local motorcycle
repair shop took me for $30 on a patch that didn't hold up,
I suspect he didn't even patch the tire, cuz soon as I
added the air before even mounting it wouldn't hold. He
should of added the air after all I paid and such, okay I'll
stop there, makes me mad when I think about it, cuz there
is nothing I can do (dummy me didn't get a receipt).

All this long winded talk, is that I discovered from talking
with a number of people on here that many run their
Quads with lots of plugs in the tires. And they really
do hold up well, for those I do have plugs in I also
add the slime as well! - Just something for you to think
about because like Stendori said, unless you upgrade
to all 6 ply tires your likely to get more punctures and/or
tears as the days go on and such (me too). I think knowing what
tire pressure to have on what terrain "can be" some
factors too (recently learned that).

- Hardpack dirt
- Rock (gravel)
- Mud/Snow
- Water (Long river/stream)

Others can jump in cuz they are more seasoned than I and have
run plenty of aftermarket tires and can comment on these issues
better than I can, I am just a fellow ATV bro. in arms like yourself
sharing what I know and have learned!

Replace them with 6-ply tires.

 

Hmm no probs with my tires yet (over 700miles)... but my wifes has a plug in her tire...I have in my tool kit a tire plug kit and a cigarette lighter air pump...works well.

 

i quickly bought a different set of rims and tire to replaced my carlise 489 a/t"s.. let just say they sucked you could get stuck in a wet field...in 400 miles i had plugs sticking all over ple place,i think they gave more gripp the the nobbies.. i went to a set of 27" itp 589 m/s now thats a sweet tire and GREAT FOR SNOWPLOWING.. i run 28by 10 vamps in the mud and rivers.. for hill climbing and plowing i dont think i could be happier than th 589"s

 

By far my best stock tires have been my Carlisle XTRs found stock on the polaris 04.5 500 sportsmans. They have been great. They only used them for the 04.5 that I know of and are a radial. They are a great trail and rock tire and solid in mud and snow for a stock tire. My PXTs came off at 300 miles on my 800 and my rawhides still look good after 4000 miles on my 2002 700. The rawhides were a good stock tire, but mine do have a few plugs. All my future tires will be radials.

 

No plugs in any of my 8 tires yet!!......Still with Stock Carlisle 489 AT's

It all depends on your riding conditions...........BTW.......Mine conditions are mostly trail riding with gravel some rock water holes, mud puddles, and forrest floor!!!.........great tire for my use!!.....

But when I do need to up-grade I may switch to a Radial Tire!!..........Caper..........

 

Forgot to say mine SP 450 (2006) has over 1600 miles
My wife's about 1400 miles............Caper..........

Do you have the 489's on the 2007 Sp 450??.....Caper......
