snow chains will not stay on
#1
well its been 2 days and 10 tries later and no luck. I puchased snow chains from northern tool. They look real good and work well too. However no matter how hard I try I can't seem to keep them centerd on the tire. They slip off to the inside and make a mess. Ive tried deflating the tire and even using a screw driver to make the chain as tight as possible. But either the chain coupling lets loose or the whole thing slips off to the side of the tire. the chains are the right size per the northern tool site. this is my first pair of snow chains so maybee I don't no what I'm doing. If anyone could offer a sugestion I would appricate it.

You did not mention chain tighteners/tensioners in your post. These are like think rubber bands with two "S" hooks. Just attach them, two each wheel, hooked into the outside chain. Pull it straight across from where you hooked on the oposit side. Then attach the other 90 degrees from the first. This will make a cross, pulling the chains tight. Don't worry about the inside, it will tighten up.
When you put the chains on the tire do the inside first, getting it as snug as you comfortly can with your hands, then the outside, then the tensioners. Runs then for a while then check for loseness.
Goodluck.

WIRE THE CLASPS SHUT!
Run a bit, and recheck tension. Then pick up a link if necessary.
Be sure to keep any pointy wire ends away from tire to avoid punctures.
Good tires are nearly as good as chains in all but very icy conditions. I think chains are a PITA personally.

I used bungees on my F-150 tire chains. Hook the chains on as tight as possible, then connect the bungees at 2, 8, 4, then 10 O'clock or so...
Definitely wire the clasps shut.
