New To Me Scrambler With Problems. What To Do?
#1
I have has my '01 Scrambler 500 4x4 for about 2 months now. I bought it from a very good dealer and spent the hefty price tag to ensure that I had a good machine. I payed $3200 for it. The dealer said it was perfect. I have ridden it maybe 7 times for a total of 50ish miles. Up until a few weeks ago it was a great machine. Now my AWD system is funky. Sometimes it will not engage, sometimes it won't dissengage, sometimes it engages on it's own. The left A-Arm needs new bushings. Today I had it on the lift playing with the AWD system and I noticed that there are no bolts holding down the front of the front gearcase. When I hit the gas the thing moves all over the place! So my question is what should I do? I want the dealer to fix all these problems for free, but they will never be able to tell that I havn't ridden it that much. I'm pretty angry. I saved up for this for months and it's my baby. What would you do?

I guess its time to see just how "very good" that dealer is.
I'd clean and shine it up and then take it back in. Talk to the sales person politely and have HIM arrange to have your ATV looked at. If the front differential is loose, that could very well be the cause of all your problems. Might just be that they can reinstall the mounting bolts, on the Sportman there are four of these bolts.
If your saleperson and dealer care about their reputation, they'll address this issue immediately and absorb the cost of a simple repair.
Good luck!!

It is pretty clean right now, but a quick hit with my buddy's pressure washer might be a good thing. I didn't get a warranty or anything with it. The problem is the dealer is over an hour away. It is the closest Polaris dealer there is. If it is something that I could fix myself I would just rather do it. If a few bolts would fix the 4WD problem it would be worth it. I don't really mind the A Arm bushings because those are an easy fix. I would just as easily do that myself too, but put all these problems together and I get I little angry. I do expect problems with a used ATV, it just goes with the terriotory. This is my second one and it is a Caddy compared to the last heap of metal and plastic.

Yeah. Well, it was a sorry excuse for a Trailbazer. It was nothing but trouble and then some more trouble.
