Well,
I ended up buying an ECM from the dealer, No luck on the aftermarket parts,
The dealers were no luck helping with getting the part replaced under the recall but one locally had the kit. I had it in and running in about 15 minutes.
The service guy told me to get ahold of Polaris customer service and explain the situation and they may comply with getting me a credit for the part. I'm doubtful on that. I;ve sent a couple of emails but have yet to speak to a human at Polaris.
Caper, I've read your past post's and it looks like you lucked out with your dealer. The ones I've been dealing with around here aren't much interested unless your looking at new bikes.
I'll keep you posted on if I'm successful in my quest.
Can anyone give me some ideas as to what battery to put in my 500 HO. I really have a problem with putting a Polaris battery in it. I have an idea of the kind of markup they tack on. How do they rate ATV batteries, On any car and truck batteries I've put in they show amps , the one i just put in shows nothing.
I run alot of extra crap and I;m sure it puts alot of draw on these small batteries, What is a higher output battery that you folks use.
Thanks

I did get the $35.00 battery from walmart, thats the one I burned my ECM with, smooooooth eh. I could not find any amp ratings on the cheap one or the $70.00 walmart battery. so I figured if the low budget one lasted a year I'd be ok. I think I'm wrong though it is having a hard time even with a fresh charge.
If I could find a heavy duty atv battery that I could see or read the amps I'd spend the money.
The new ECM is the silver one with the grease and harness.I did speak to a human at Polaris Friday and they assured me someone from customer support would contact me by Wed of this week. Not to say they are going to do anything but I will keep on them.
I mounted my plows this weekend and checked the winches. Here is one that is typical of my luck. I bought a $39 winch a few years back on ebay, new. and it has worked flawlessly. I beat the crap out of it lifting about a 100lb plow and the back blade constantly, thus the need for a better battery. anyway, the chinese winch always works.
Last year I put a plow on the front and needed a better winch so I figured I'd buy a better one. I got a gorilla winch and the thing squeels like a pig going up and down.
I think I'm going to have to take it apart and try to get some grease in there sound like its running on bushings not bearings. I'm pretty sure it's an Import as well, don't get me started on Imported stuff. Wrong site for that.

Just what I figured, Polaris told me to F$%k myself.
It's about on par from what I've heard the customer support would be.
I'd like to buy American, I build American products for a living, But if the robotic response to a known problem is we won't help you then I'll look at a Jap quad next.

If you look at a YUASA batttery they make alot of the polaris, honda, and yamaha batteries. The Yuasa one is cheaper, but is the same battery.

let me get this straight? you hooked up the battery wrong and fried your ecm! how is that polaris's fault? and the only person you should be pissed at is yourself, i'm sure the "jap" quads like the battery hooked up correct too ... arent they clearly marked positive and negative? i think i woulda just bought the part quick b4 anyone found out what i did ! it sounds like an expensive lesson to pay attention to what your doing

I just found this response to something I posted several months back and no, I'm not trying to blame anyone but myself for burning up the ecm. What I am not happy about is the response that I am getting from Polaris about replacing a part that is known to be defective. Same serial number same symptom as a ton of people on this forum.
This crap about the dealer saying I need to contact the manufacturer and the manufacturer saying it's a dealer responsibility flies no place with me.
