Default Scrambler Guru's Help Me!

I am looking at two different Scramblers I want to buy. They are both 500 4x4. One is a 98 going for $1600. It just had a whole new clutch kit put in, and has a rear rack. The fenders have two cracks in them, and the rear brake pedal doesn't work, I'm hoping it just needs to be bled. The other is a 02 that is bone stock for $2700. I want to know if there was ANY upgrades done to the newer models, or are they the same bike just with different color plastic?? Are the older ones more prone to belt slipping from water getting in?? Are the motors the same, and what machines can I interchange plastics with, cause I'm not a fan of the purple. One last question...I have Yamaha rims laying around, are the bolt patterns the same or is it not gonna work. Any advice would be great, cause I'm planning to check both machines out in the next couple days.

Don't let the hp numbers fool you. Its all in how you get it to the ground. Clutching clutching clutching!

Go with the 2002 you get better suspinsion, bigger steering post, better tie rod ends, better clutch cover.Basicly a better machine with all the upgrades. Then you can clutch it to your riding style and do the mods to suit you.
The Yamie fronts will fit but not the rears.

Not sure about the other questions, but the most raptor front wheels (4/156) will fit the scrambler. The scramblers rear bolt pattern is not even metric. The rear is 4/4 kinda rare.

And if I remember right the 02 will be a HO and the 98 will be a regular 500. Correct me if I'm wrong
