Default break in period

I just completed my break in period ( 10 hours) and i need to do my oil change.

In the book it talks about removing hoses to get to a filter in the hose or something... is this needed, or just empty the oil, replace the filter, and add more oil and call it done?

anything else i need to do?

thanks, erick

differnt people do it both ways. if you take out the hose screens and prime the system back. ive just changed oil and filter and have been alright but yu can do either.

I changed my oil for the first time at 25 miles. When I read the owners manual, I was suprised at the complicated procedure, but it wasn't that hard. I'll take it to the dealer at 25 hours (free change with purchase), but the rest I think I'll do myself.

btw how did you break yours' in ... by the book or ride it hard?

I used this method. http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

So far so good. About 23 hours on it now.

You don't need to prime the system if you do not touch the lower hose.

After I disconnected the lower hose I bumped the starter to get the last dribble of oil out.

Doing the whole procedure isn't that hard, but its your $7000 toy. I don't think you'd have a problem every other time, but ...

I've only done my screen fitting once, that was during the break-in oil change. I haven't done it since, and it has had two other oil changes. I'll probably do it once a year, which will probably be good enough. I really don't think it's necessary each time. There would have to be a huge amount of junk in the tank to restrict the oil flow through that screen, and if you find that much, you have more serious problems that just that. Some guys like peace-of-mind, so if checking every time like the manual says make you feel better, then by all means do it. It can't hurt that's for sure.

Also, I broke in both my 500 and 800 easily, and have not had any problems with either one.
