I have a 1996 Magnum 425, and I am trying to remove the clutch. Is there any special tools required to remove the back plate (the one nearest the engine)? Thanks

Correct, a puller is required.

The end of the crank and the inside of the clutch are tapered so that sucker can be on there good. The puller is inexpensive and will ensure no damage. See your Polaris dealer.

To get the pulley off the engine, you can use a 3/4 inch fine threaded bolt (grade 5 or 8) as a puller. Try to find one with a lot of threads if you can.

To seperate the pulley halves require special tools, and a lot of grunt.
