I change the oil twice a year, once at the start of summer and again at the start of winter. Even at $10/quart, $40 isn't that much for a years worth of oil. If you use a lesser oil, just change it more frequently.

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Even if it didn,t common sense says to use it ,</end quote></div>
Really? And what common sense says that? I race every weekend during the summer in 3 different classes. I drive in one and crew cheif in two. We just won a championship in one class and have set many track records. Some of the engines I work on have synethic in them; some don't. I have yet to loose any engine due to lubrication issues with "dino" oil. I have ran nothing but "dino" oil in all of my turbo engines. Never any problems. The last race of the season we blew up one of our best racing engines. It kicked a rod out the side of the block. It was running Mobil 1. Now do I blame it on synethic oil? Nope. One of the rods were tight and smoked the crank and then the rod got grabby. Bang, rolled the window down in the pan. This issue had nothing to do with the oil. If we had dino in it, I'm sure you would have put the blame on it. It went bang with syn in the pan. It would have gone bang with dino in it. The clearences were off.

My point? Get the machine work right and just about any oil will work Get it wrong and I don't care what you run; it's going to go bang!!!

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>People spend thousands on buying a ATV than run cheap Dinosaur oil to save a buck! LOL </end quote></div>
Really? I save more than a buck. I haven't done this in a while so let me do this again. Fun with math.

I will round the numbers to make it easy.

Some on this forum change their oil every 8 hours. Lets round to 10.
Some on this forum use 12 buck + per Qt synethic oil. Some use 8 buck / Qt.
Lets use 10 bucks/ Qt for an average.
Lets set ride time to ohhhhhh 300 hours / year. Again, some ride more, some ride less.

300hrs/ 10=30 changes a year.
My quad take 3 Qt's of oil. Some more, some less. Lets go with 3.

3 Qt's X $10 (/Qt) X 30 changes/ year= $900 bucks a year for just synethic oil changes!!!

Now lets figure dino.

3 Qt's X $1.50 (/Qt) X 30 changes/ year= $135 bucks a year in oil changes!!!!

A savings of $765!!!!
WOW, guess I saved more than a buck!!!!

Let me end this by saying that I don't give a rats behind what oil or cam or gas or piston or what anybody runs. Some people on this forum don't have a lot of money and 765 bucks may be the difference between riding a quad or sell it and sitting at home watching TV. These are the people that I want to reach and say; They made plenty of power in the 60's and 70's and 80's without syn oil. Too these people I say; no, your engine won't blow up the first time you crank on it if you don't have syn oil in it. Is it nice? Yep. Do you REALLY NEED it? Not in about 90%+ of engines I see on the trail.

Wow. I can't BELIEVE how many times this comes up.. Let me explain it again.

For a couple bucks less per quart, WHY WOULD YOU USE ANYTHING OTHER THAN POLARIS PURE PREMIUM 0w-40 ????????? Dude, It's a complete NO BRAINER!!!

I paid 7 grand for my new 700 EFI. Why on God's green earth would I EVER in my right mind, Risk ruining the engine, or voiding the waranty, for maybe 12 bucks a year????? It almost seems like a game with some of you people, to see who can get their ATV to run on the cheapest oil. "Oh yeah, well I run tomato juice in my Scrambler....it's okay as long as it stays above 32 degrees outside....."

Doc Turbo is right. Oil is Oil is Oil. Keep it changed and it really doesn't matter what you use!

Some one please show me a link where Dino is better or as good as Synthetic.(good luck with that) Dino = good Synthetic = better. Strip a two highmilage identical engines down one the only used synthetic and the other only that used conventional and you will see a difference wear and residue build up. Its been tested many times.

Synthetic properties, take longer to break down(less changes) ,handle higher heat before breakdown occurs and handle a wider range of temperatures.

$8.00 a quart who cares,as long as it keeps a engine job off over a longer period of time.

This is like the Honda guys arguing drum brakes are as good as disks.

Where in my post did I say that? Let me answer the question for you. IT"S NOT!!!! Like I said in the previous post, I USE IT in one of our race motors. If I rode a 450 with the sump of a thimble in -0 weather would I use a good syn? HELL YA!!!
Would I use syn in a quad that tears up trails? NO. I use dino and have never rolled the window down in the case yet or re-built any engine.
<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Strip a two highmilage identical engines down one the only used synthetic and the other only that used conventional and you will see a difference wear and residue build up.</end quote></div>
I just did. I just took the valve cover off of my 86 Nissan to lash the valves. It has never had a drop of syn in it's life. At 260,000 miles, no sludge, no build-up, just a shiny valve cover. BTW, it had 180 PSI compression in each hole.
Just took the turbo off of a 93 diesel. No coking of the turbo return, no anything except black oil and hatch marks still in the bore at 130,000 miles.
I keep my stuff a long time. My cars are in the mid 90's or older. All have over 200K on them. All of them run fine with dino in them.

Just how long do you think the average quad lives? News flash!!! Not long!!!! They hit a tree or get flipped down a hill or rode off a cliff LONG before the average engine starts to give up The average quad or bike I see in my riding area is about 4 years old or newer. It has nothing to do with the engine dieing.

Sort of like 12 valve Cummins pick-ups. You never see them around anymore. It has nothing to do with the engines. They run like new still. The rest of the truck........well.............thats a different story!!!!

TLC, point me to some posts on this forum that blame oil for their engine blowing up. I have seen a lot of engines blow up at the track and have yet to see one blow up because of the oil.

If it makes you feel warm, fuzzy and safe to run 10 dollar/ quart syn in your engine, go for it. After all, your only spending a buck or two more each year.

Our 97 SP is still running since new with 7000 miles , My 89 Big Bear is still plugging around,no odometer to tell me it,s mileage but if I had to guess maybe a zillion. Oh ..and yes both were rolled down a hill a few times.
