Default Is this oil OK?

As suggested by a mechanic, I bought Amsoil 10W40 for my 2001 Scramber 500 4x4. I get home and check the maunual and it states to use 0w40.

Will the 10w40 hurt my machine?

Should I change it out?

Thanks all

Ernie

It won't hurt your engine as long as you don't live in a cold-weather climate. If you'll be starting it up in anything below 45 degrees, I wouldn't use it.

ADDED:

Amsoil makes a 0W-40, it's what I use.

I am in the Poconos. In the thirties now!!!

I guess it is to thick and will not lubricate in the cold?

It's the cold start-up thats the main issue. You want the oil to flow properly when it (the oil) is cold. If it's in the 30's, definitely use the 0W-40. Don't take any chances, you bearings with thank you.

10/40 is good down to mid teens. 5/30 is good down to well into the -'s.
Are you sure your quad calls for synethic only?

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Are you sure your quad calls for synethic only? </end quote></div>

Even if it didn,t common sense says to use it , Use Goggle and type "Synthetic vs conventional oils" and you can read all day.

Petroleum oil's one and ONLY advantage over full synthetic is it,s price.

One of a million studies

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Synthetic or Conventional Motor Oil? Synthetic motor oils are manufactured specifically to stand up to the severe conditions that conventional motor oils cannot take. Synthetic motor oils are much more viscous and reduce wear and friction much better. Because of the higher viscosity of synthetic motor oil, engines can run cooler as a result of less friction.</end quote></div>

People spend thousands on buying a ATV than run cheap Dinosaur oil to save a buck! LOL
