Default first ride on 08 800

hey all, just got back from a ride in West VA friday on my new 08 800. i have to say coming from a carb 05 700 (which is no slouch in the power department) the 800 is awsome. i have ridden an 05 800 and even though the 08's are suppose to have more power, they feel about the same. (will see after break in is done). didnt get a chance to use ADC but have played around with it and it is nice.
the only thing i really didnt like was the grips and the position of the throttle lever, my 05 was better in both areas (will have to tweek a little). also mileage sucks so far. 30 miles in high range and a little mud and it was down to 2 bars again will see after break in.

my friend 07 700 grizzley kept up with me from off the line but after about 30mph the 800 was starting to out run him. the grizzly does weigh about 170 or so lbs less.

all in all happy with my purchase. now just got to get rid of the 700.

have a good one.

Welcome to the 800 Club. Stendori has a '08 800, mines an '07. My mileage sucks as well, but I still love it!!

It's funny you should mention the grips. I too just moved from an 05 700 to the 08 800 and I love the new slimmer feeling hand grips. I never noticed a difference in throttle position. Anyway, you will love the ADC once you get a chance to check it out. My gas milage is about the same as you just described. I am hoping it gets better, but if Sheepdog has an 07 that is no better, It may be about all we can expect out of it. How many miles you got on sheepdog? How many miles till you consider it to be broken in?

sorry to disagree with you RolliePollieOllie, but i hate the new grips, my hands hurt like crazy even with gloves. i prefer the 05 700's grips. im going to try and and trade them back and forth.

also the front compartment isnt as waterproof as i thought it would be. i accidentally sunk the front of my 800 (deeper than i thought it was ) and i opened up the compartment and my pringles were just a floating. thank goodness for the rubber drain plugs in the bottom.

have a good one.

I also just bought a new 08' Sportsman 800EFI in Mossy Oak this past weekend. I've been working late each night, so I haven't even had a chance to get it out of the garage yet!!

I got the Pure Polaris Heated Grip set and the heated thumb kit as well and hope to put them on tonight if I get home soon enough.

I drove to Chattanooga, TN and bough it for $6992. Also picked up $1776 of factory options which included a new helmet and goggles. Their price beat my local dealer (Waynesville, NC) who said he couldn't (wouldn't) go below $7995.

Ride on...

thats a good price. i wanted the camo but after talking to my friend (who works at polaris shop) and reading the forums, it seems that if left out in the sun or weather too much some camo sportsmans have a tendency to turn purple. so that is why i went with the stealth. $7500 otd with 2 yr free ext warrenty.

let me know how the heated grips and thumb warmer do, might end up getting them.

well i can get at least 16 mpg on mine if i drive it decent w/ stock tires on it. i would think the engine wil be broke in between 350 and above miles. there is a differnce in power between the 06 and 08' 800's for sure.

im still kind of new to the forums but i have a couple of pics on my home page. can people look at that or how do i get those pics to you guys?

thanks

oh yea STENDORI: im not sure what i got but i did about 30miles (first 30 on the machine) and was down to 2 bars left. looked in the gas tank and could see the plastic in the bottom. this was high range driving around 30mph and a little mud in high. so its no where near as good as my 05 700 carb but a lot more fun
