Default Metal Channel On Lock and Ride Rack

Just bought a new Sportsman 700 EFI and I am wondering what the metal C channel is for on the lock and ride rack?

I think its just there so you can hook up bungy cords and stuff like that.

Sheepdog has got it right. The channels are for bungy cords. From my experience they have worked very well. Haven't lost a cooler or chainsaws yet. Very sturdy to put it mildly.

Thanks all, I thought that might be what they were for but thought I would check with the experts since I am new to the Polaris Sportsman family!
