Default what type of grease gun do I use for my polaris

I have a Polaris Phoenix and it has zerk fittings for grease, but I am not sure what type of gun to use. I used a standard grease gun , but the grease did not seem to go in. Sounds stupid I know, but someone help a guy out.

might have to un screw the zerk and see if you can get grease thru it when it's not on to see if the fitting is good

There are a lot of zerks on the Sawtooth, they are all standard size so any standard grease gun should work. I use both the small Polaris brand and the large automotive one I've had for years. If one doesn't take grease, chances are it needs to be replaced.

bhilto71,

I own a 99 Xplorer and when I first tried to grease her up, had the same thing happen, the grease would just run down the fitting. The machine was pretty gunked up so after a good cleaning I had the same problem. I was able to get a small into the pressure fitting, it seemed like a bunch just had a hard crust on them. After a couple of pokes, they all took grease.

Good luck

it you can push in the little nipple on the fitting then it should take grease. if not then maybe too much crap or bad grease in there preventing it from goin i. i grease mine just about everytime i go in alot of water/mud.

Sometimes the zerk wont take grease because it is bottoming out. Ive got one like that on the drive shaft on my Hawkeye. Take the zerk out and it takes grease. Put it back and wont take it. Replace it, same thing.

when i bought my sons used 07 hawkey, none of the fittings would take grease. I took out all the fittings and cleaned around the hole where the zirk fitting is, i sprayed a little pb blaster in there enough to create a "puddle" put the zirk back in and greased with a regular grease gun with synthetic grease, haven't had any problems since. put plenty of grease in to flush out the penetrant though.
