Scrambler 400 AWD Help!
#1
I have a 2000 Scrambler 400 4x4. I was going to try and get my snow covered trailer out of my snow filled back yard last night, and I noticed that my 4x4 wasn't working. I just bought the bike and it is very clean and in great shape, I bought it from a guy at work and he barely rode it. I know that the battery is SHOT!! It is completely dry and I have to pull start it everytime, but it runs great. I plan on getting a battery this weekend. I was wondering if the battery being completely dead would cause the AWD not to work? I am hoping so. I have changed all the fluids except the hub fluid, which I will be doing this weekend. I just need to get my trailer out, and my bike will NOT budge it in 2wd because its so icy and snow covered. Please tell me it's the battery!!

Hi, question, was the 4X4 working when you bought it? If you didn't hear anything when you engaged the 4X4 it could be just a wiring problem, it should work when you had it running, even rope starting.

I'm not sure if it was working when I bought it. I have only had it 1 month and haven't tried engaging it till now. No it didn't make any noise when I flipped the switch to engage the 4wd.

Get a good battery on it and I bet the 4x4 will work.It takes bgood juice to engage the magnets

Thanks, 1st thing I do in the morning is get a battery and try it. I really hope it works, I got to finish getting this thing ready for ice fishing, and I need the trailer out of the back yard before it snows so much I can't get it out!! We have had a lot of snow within the last week, and we have more tonight and this weekend. I will let you know if the new battery fixes it. I noticed the headlights are kinda weak too and the dash lights are weak when I flip the headlights on, but are brighter if I leave the headlights off. This battery is toast for sure (it's the original battery-7 yrs old), I just hope it makes the AWD work!! The rest of the quad is great, the stock tires are almost new.

You mean the only fluid that affects the operation of the AWD was not changed?
I rode my 2001 with a dead battery for months and it did not effect the AWD in anyway.
If is not the hub fluids check the wires to each hub for problems.
Does your ATV have a digital speedo? That has to operate for the AWD to function as well.
