polaris scrambler 4x4 locked in
I bought a used 2000 polaris scrambler 400 4x4 about a year ago. I just started having this problem (the front right wheel is locked in 4wd and is pulling hard to the right) I went out a bought the Haynes manual for this atv but i cant seem to find anything in it about the 4wd. Anyone know where i should start at to get this problem fixed. Could it be the front diff. or is it more likely the front right "hub" any and all help would be GREATLY appreciated. I have never worked on a fourwheeler but i do work on cars and trucks

I was going to say what STENDORI said.
My 99 Explorer used to do the same thing, after changing the fluid it did it less, but if it did it, I would reverse for a few feet and it would un-lock itself. I think it did it more in the cold. Did you notice that?

Do the hub fluid change every year. Do a search here on hub fluid and you will pull up a bunch of posts. If the fluid doesnt do the trick, then you will need to pull it apart. The usual next culprit is the armature plate or the garter spring. Previous posts have the torque specs also for reinstall.
Also, sometimes it is not the hub. CHeck the cv boots for tears. If the boot is torn, the cv will run dry and have the same pull release feel as the hub. I have had to deal with both.

as of right now the atv is at a shop getting the carb rebuilt and new throttle cable put on (I didn't have the time I thought to do it my self while reading the haynes manual, turns out though I could of prolly got it done before they do [they have had it now for 5 weeks]) But when I get it back I will do what you all have said and see if it fixes the problem. Thanks alot everyone
