Default 06 Sportsman 500 Tires

Had some bad luck last weekend when I was out playing in the snow with the wheeler. I went to take it out last night and both rear tires were flat, I had a rusty old framing nail in one and a smaller screw in the other. I took them both in to the local tire shop and the plugged them both. is that good enough? should they have pached them from the inside? or tubed them?????????

Any input would be greatly appreciated....

I've plugged a lot of car and four wheeler tires without a problem. My Scrambler ended up with tubes in the front, but that was only because the rims were pounded almost square. Plugs should be just fine.

I put tubes in mine and have never even added air to them in a year, before I had to add air every 2 months.

I ran over a 1/4 inch piece of steel wire and plugged that whole. So far it has been two years without a problem. I also keep a plug kit with me at all times. You can get a small kit at any automotive store for about 5 bucks. Cheap solution to most tire puncture problems.

Yes plugs will hold sometimes forever, I have even fixed a tear in a buddys quad once with TWO lol. I say get a kit that has the T handle rasp tool and I like the plugs that you dont have to put the tar stuff on. I never go on a trail ride with out my plug kit and an air pump. O one other thing try to cut the XS plug off(can get caught and pull out). And my buddy swears if you take a lighter to it and melt it a bit and works better for him, I have never done this but just a thut. The tire plug verry simple thing that cld save ya tons of time, gotta love em!!!!

I have had up to 7 or 8 plugs in one hole and ran the tire for a long time. ATV tires are very low pressure tires and plugs work great. I would stay away from tubes, pain in the rear if you do get a flat out on a trail 25 miles from nowhere. Never been let down with plugs. And don't use that stupid glue that comes with them, they tend to slide right back out. Get the black plugs not the brown ones. The black plugs stay put real well.

THE problem with pluging a atv tire is they swell like a ballon.my plugs never held ,but tubes are only like 8.00 so i patched them and tubed them just to be safe..dont want a flat in the middle of nowhere..they were my STOCK carlise 489 tires, talk aboy JUNK!!..my zillas and itp 589"m/s are much thicker, but seems they weight as much as the wheeler..lol..lol..lol..lol..good luck hope i dont see ya on the trail with a flat and a plug hanging out!!
