Default Spark grounding to Frame

Ok the bikes been runnin great since the exhaust and bigger carb, then about a week ago i had it out in some nasty weather and i started cuttin out, I assumed water on coil pack or plug. I let it sit a few minutes and it fires right back up and goes. That night I put a rubber sheild in front of coil and plug to keep water off (its a 3 wheeler, the front wheel throughs the water right at the motor) So Im out last night and its muddy as all hell. the kind of mud that clumps together and really weighs you down. Bike starts cuttin out again in the worst possible place to break down. Its runnin but has no power to pull through the mud even down hill. So im playin with the wires and i notice the plug boots pulled off the wire easily. I cut the wire down and screw boot back on. but before i did that i noticed as i try to start it there a sparks, big sparks, jumping all around the motor to the frame so i figure this is why its runnin weak, the plugs not gettin enough juice. i fix the boot and its still doin it. I did notice coil was a little loose on frame but didnt worry about it. i thought maybe plugs broke and coil spark is going around plug to the block and then out to the frame but i see no spark in the plug area just around exhaust and motor mounts. Basicaly right now its in a mud cacoon and i don't know if i need a coil or not. any ideas, this coil has been hard to find. how could the spark get from the coil to the frame if the wire from coil to plug is good, or is it. i see no spark in that area

Is the motor grounded to the frame? A bad ground connection could cause a lot of problems. I'd check that first.

motor is steel mount to frame. with the mods i had to beef up the mounts cause they keep breakin, the upper mount even ripped off a section of the tubular frame. i left one rubber mout to help with vibration

That coil should get it's ground through the two mounting bolts on the coil itself!!!!
OR.........
Is there a extra ground wire comming off the coil?

If you make sure the coil is mounted and tight to the frame of the 3- wheeler .....Than the spark should not try and jump to ground..............It will already be made!!!!.............Hope that helps.........let us know!!!!..............................Caper....... ......

turns out the spark jump wasn't my only problem, i took advice on a better ground and since the bike was old i figure maybe the grounds not what it once was so i pulled of the coil sanded down the contacts ran a 4guage wire from the coil ground to the cylinder head itself and then there was not more spark to frame but it still wasn't running right. so i yanked out the air filter and it never ran better. but later that day i blew it up so check my new post on what im doin now.

by removing the air filter you allowed alot more cold air in making it runner lean as well. most likely why it ran so good w/ all kinds of power. engines always runs the best right before they die.
