Default sludge

ok I have a oily greenish sludge that comes out when I pull on my pull start cord? can and will that cause problems? and can this be why my sportsman wont start?

its actually not in my list its a 98 sportsman 500

Get a pull start gasket and pull the starter cover off, sounds like you had some fluids enter the pull starter, could be even worst if the engine leaked fluids into there. You won't know untill you pull of the cover, they are a B*&^% to pull off also.
