Default won't turnover on own

ok guys, I have a 500 sportsman it only clicks when I try to start but when I hook my jumper cables from my truck to my battery it will start right up. I have had the starter check mechanic said ok and also a new battery. Also after I start it and turn it off it will almost turnover on its on but goes back to just a click. Mechanic said something about a valve sticking not relieving compression but it runs great after I jump it off

take spark plug out and see if it will spin the motor over.If it doesnt spin motor when you pull plug out then it is not the compression release valve that the mechanic talked about.I guess you have cleaned the connectors the connect to your battery?

I had the same problem on my 700 and it was the starter drive, not the starter. The piece that the starter plugs into. They call it the bendix. It wasn't staying engaged long enough.

It would start with the pull rope on the first pull but rope very hard to pull and broke. The engine does turnover with the spark plug pulled but the spark plug is very black at the end and I will I have the bendix checked out

Ya I pull started mine when I got it, just to see how much of a bear it wld be if had starter probs, I can say it pulls over with little effort, think my wifes 250 pulls harder than my 450sp.That is all I got!
