Default went though a 3 ft snowdrift and now this ! 400 scrambler

The 400 scrambler just went though a 3 ft snowdrift and now I have a cracked head or blown headgasket . Here is what it is doing . When you turn it over it builds up so much pressure in the radiator that antifreese SPRAYS , I mean SPRAYS out the top seam where it is crimped together .
I don't think this should be this way . I am guessing that it is a blown head gasket and compression is getting into the radiator.
Do you think I am a pretty good guesser or are you thinking something else ?
Thanks,
D.

Ya I would check the easy stuff first. Check the rad and t-stat before you tear in really deep.

Won't even start now. I would hate to guess how much antifreeze would be sprayed all over the shop walls. All the snow is melted off, this happened a couple of days ago and it has been sitting in my heated shop since.

Well then you might be right. Check the simple stuff, fuel and spark, and check compression. Anything less than 100psi and you've got a problem for sure. Check the plug for aluminum as well.

I would first replace the radiator cap. You can get one at an autoparts store, look for 13lb pressure cap, take yours in so they can measure the diameter. That is something cheap to check.

If it's not that, it might be like mine was. My was gurgling when you start it and would run, but it would spray anitfreeze all over my leg. I felt like a male dog. Anyway, I checked the torque on the head and two bolts would not re-torque and they were not tight. I ended up getting another JUG off ebay and did a top end rebuild.

The original jug had two helicoils when I finally tore it off. I bought it used and whatever they did, it did not hold. I won't use helicoils now, I take my cases to a machine shop and have them install better inserts or they remachine it. It's pretty cheap actually.

remosed the sparkplug and it was full on antifreeze. I took it apart and the headgasket is definately blow.
The exhaust pipe is full of antifreeze. . I have a couple of more questions but will post it in the next post.

The two main reasons for that condition are use of a aftermarket head gasket or , a warped head . Resist the tempation to check the head on emory paper and glass - it never works , especially with the solid metal thin head gaskets polaris uses . Best thing to do is face off a few thousandths in a lathe .

Sometimes the cast in sleeve slips too . It is rare - but it happens . Check the cylinder top visually , run a finger across it - feel for a *slip* .
