#1
got a new one for the 400. been trying to cut the old one before I screw up the new one. tried cutting the head off on the pins but they dont want to punch out. do I cut the pin between the links? tried that and seemed to damage the inside link.????????

Yhea I usually cut the head off with a grinder to remove it and you have to grind it down to the link pretty much and then punch it out. Does your chain not have a master link in it like most motorcycle chains?

Just got thru cutting on the old chain. learned an expensive lesson with the chain breaker: practice cutting the old junk chain so you dont screw up the new one. cut it with my Dremmel that I got for Christmas, punched it out on a block of wood with a hammer and punch. Thanks for the help.

glad you got it to working. I myself have never owned a chain breaker so I dont even know how to use one(although I am sure it would be pretty self explanitory.)

Never had any problems using a chain breaker before. Not sure what type of difference there are in the pins, but I my chain was a 520 o-ring.
Had the chain get torn up by a rock, and thought my weekend was over. Got lucky and a person camping across from us had a spare chain, and he gave us a few links. My nephew had a breaker. Got it fixed and got to ride a few more days. Now I keep one with my tools I take riding.
I did go back a kick the rock that started it all.
