what happened!?!?!
Well this past deer season i was riding our 99 xplorer 300 when all of a sudden it started making this really weird noise and bogging.. It would barely idle then it died.. i finally got it going using the pull start, and a little bit farther it died again, and siezed.. I broke it free, but that was that. I tore it down tonight and this is what happened.. the front part of the cylinder wall is all scratched.. Can this just be honed out? Do the cylinders on these are they plated? Or am i screwed? The head seems fine.
Also, i think the primary is stuck engaged sometimes.. If you stop with the brakes it almost dies. If you start it in gear, it rolls forward. Ideas?

that looks something like the yamaha phazer engine we just tore down for a seizer. that cylinder needs to be bored out for sure and i think you can but will have to ask a dealer to be sure. looks like a lean (too hot) seizure for sure. was the needle bearing in the connecting rod blued and did ther wrist pin come out real hard? hows the carb, is it dirty? was you riding this in cold weather ?

The cylinder can be bored...I sent mine out to Rick Ritter,he bored it & fitted me with a nice wiseco piston
After the rebuild, you can check the oil injection pump by pulling the line at the pump, that goes to the carb, plugging it and watching the pump(where you pulled the line from) my book just says "you should see a small amount of oil after the engine runs for a few minutes"
...you'll want to make sure you run a pre-mix with the first tank of gas & you might want to drain the oil tank and refill it with fresh 2-stroke oil.
(mine had about 1/3 water in it...couldn't see it looking into the tank..It seems oil floats!!)

i would say a lean condtion(too much air not enough gas) cause the melt down. if your riding this 2 stroke in cold weather and dont have it jettet for cold air its running too lean. you might also have an air leak that was sucking too air like a bad boot or crank seal. w/ the cylinder off check the crank area w/ a flash light to make sure it was getting oil as well so that you know the oil pump was working.
