Changed all my fluids today and noticed that the drain plug had been slightly worn down by something in the trans. I stuck my finger up inside and it feels like a flap of some sort that is spring loaded. I did not have any metal on any of the drain plugs at all. It all looked good compared to my 500 that alway's had metal stuck to the plugs. Should I bee concerned? My warranty is about to run out. Should I buy the extended warranty? I called the dealer and he say's that it is not a problem. Any thought's would be appreciated.

 

some of the plugs were too long and was hitting on the trans chain i do beleave. i think some said he replaced it or ground it down a little becasue it can cause the chain to break eventually.

 

Thank's for the reply, but it did not feel like a chain that I was touching in there. If it's all good, than I will go with it. I have had no problem's no metal, whatsoever. It just seem's strange that a machine that is engineered would have something so simple as a drain plug be to long seem's senseless.

 

I would tell my dealer about it and get a service ticket started on the problem. The dealer may do nothing to fix the problem, but you will have proof that the problem started before your warranty ran out. That way they should cover it later if the drain plug was to wear in to chain or whatever it is rubbing against. my 2 cents

 

Mine was the same way. I'll probably look for a shorter plug for the next fluid change.

 

Badmoose, I did just what you said and awaiting a reply from them. We will see. It suck's when you go to the dealer and you have to help the guy at the desk navigate thru the computer to look up your part's. I know the guy is not new, I have been going for 2 year's and he helped me load both of my new machine's.

 

i would still change the plug to a shorter one to save any headaches later.

 

outback 31 I know what you mean about dealers employees being less than knowledgeable about the product line they sell. I was at my dealer little while back, one salesman asked the sales manager if polaris made a 800 fourwheeler. I was thinking " yeah for about the last three years". Parts department about the same way. You would think they would be better trained, informed about what they sell. The service department charges 70.00 an hour, surley they can afford to provide training for their employees. my 2 cents worth

 

Dealer has my 07 800, Trans is pulled from machine he is replacing internal parts with new caused by excessive slack in the chain grinding the top of the drain plug off. I guess you twin owner's may want to keep an eye on this. My machine only has 350 mile's on it. Hoov

 

so he's coving the repair under warranty because of the too long of oil plug in the tranny. thats good to know.
