Im still waiting on my carb parts, I sure hope it solves my problem which is the same as yours. Do you have any gas in the engine oil? I do, so I am banking on the carb being my problem. I will keep you posted on the outcome.

It very well could be the cam. But the magnums air intake snorkal is made of rubber. With age it can get weak and try to suck itself shut and lose vaccume preasure and create a LEAN condition. The little metal cage and the yellow prefilter has to on the snorkal to run correctly. If it is not present then a lean condition can and will occur.

I had one doing much the same and the carb body was actually cracked. I'd check the carb over really good for cracks while I was putting the kit in it. If it isn't the carb then I'd put money on teh cam being shot. The symptoms of the two conditions are quite similar.

I was having the same issues with my '95, I replaced the needle jet, main jet, jet needle. Ran way better on top end, I put the eclip in the third notch down, as the manual says.
As for gas in oil, the carb float needle and seat are worn or stuck. It's supposed to hold 5" of vacuum with a mityvac tool

I have an extra Cylmers manual for 96-98 magnums. $10 shipped if you need one.

Man I just ordered the clymer manual..$30, I sure wish that had been posted 2 days ago!

I sure hope replacing the needle jet, main jet, and the nozzle solve all my problems.. I just dont understand how practically sinking my 4wheeler led to this issue. Maybe it compounded a pre-existing problem. My bike was missing a beat everynow and then when under heavy load.

Thanks everyone for their input, sorry for hi-jacking the thread, I just happen to be having the same problems as tedsxb.

Well I am happy to report that changing the needle jet, jet needle(nozzle), and main jet cured my issues. I cant believe I had a carb problem the whole time. I am going to run the quad hard tomorrow and see if it holds up.

Glad to hear it!!! I guess with the carb being hard mounted to the frame all that stuff rattles around wears it out.

Well, I finally got to lookat it further and I figured out that the flat slide in the carb wasnt opening at all, but the butterfly was, so I suspect a broken plastic linkage. Ill clean the carb all out well and see if it solves it, but I dont see how this wouldnt affect the performance of the engine !!!

The diaphram that operates the slide is probably bad if the slide doesn't move. Is that with the engine running? The slide will only move with the engine running.
