okay, so after adjusting the etc it still didn't start i guess i'll try starter fulid or like mentioned, putting some gas in the spark plug hole and see what happens. was hoping it was something simple but like always it never turns out that way.

I Had THe exact problem in my 500 scrambler the last summer all year take the carb out and clean it good idk how the carb would make it do that but i did the fuel filter draned teh tank new plug nothing helped but the carb did i found out that the adjustment screw was 4 and 1/2 tursns out it is only suposed to be 2 and 5/8 turn out i took alot of time and cleaned all the jets and took out whant i could to clean better. ehen i first put it in it fired right up and then gas porred into the air filter they next day i was gonna take it back out to check the float level and stuff i fired it up first for the hell of it it ran fine i gues the float stuck for a sec but i when riding 5 times since and no problem. when it was running before mine as it backfired and engine started tapping like a valve tap sound as it shut down.

how hard is it to take the carb out and clean it? isn't there a bunch of small parts in it? as i wouldn't even know where to start. i've really only done basic maintenance before. thanks for bearing with me so far.

um it was my first time 2 on my scrambler I had to take off seat and then the front plastics off. take out clutch air breather, take out air box. I had to take the 2 oil over flow lines off the air box. I had to unbolt the tank and pull it up a couple inches and hold it with a fan belt i had laying around to the handle bar. turn off the fuel take the hose off teh carb. take the clamp off the engine rubber intake boot. take off the 2 nuts that hold on the top of the carb. then i had to turn the carb sideways barelly enuff room. and take of teh scres on the side on hte plasic cover were the throtel cable goes in. i had to go full throttle then try to hold the butterfly thing with the cable on it from returning. i took a lil screwdriver were there was a gap in the cable and pulled the slackto turn the cable tip to slide it out of the cable butterfly thing that the cable is attached to. then you have to unscrew the cable from the carb itself. finaly the choke cable i could not figure how to get off even when i had the carb on the bench. so i just took the cable out of the dash and took out the carb with the choke that isn't even a choke it is a fuel rinchener.
Then when you have it out i would take the bottom boal off. witch mine was so tight i stripped every single one so i used visegrips and got new screws. take it off you will see hte float nothing will fall out. i took the float and all of the jets but i don't think that is always manditory. but infront of the boal going towards teh engine there is a scre in the center that you have to adjust. cound how many full turns it take to screw it in and then reamember it and take it out. spray contackt cleaner thats what polaris recomends but i think carb and chock cleaner will work good 2. there will bee a sprint and o ring on that so clean the jet and the hole it came from. I always like to put some wd40 on my jet when i am done so the rubber o-ring doesn't dry up. then put it back in all the way and back it out 2 1/2 to 2 5/8 turns out. then in the boal there will be different holes and stuff sticking down spray the cleaner in there to clean all of those jets out. clean out the boal and then you can put it back on.
I don't know if it is needed but i took off the top thing of teh carb witch acualy has the automattic choke in it. those were way to tight on mine 2. take that off and you will see a rubber thingwith a sqaur in the middle gently peal the lip off the carb and slid it out keep it rightside up and there will be a needle on the bottom keep it rightside up and make shure hte needle doesn't come out. mine did and it was harde to get it back in with teh washer. inspect the rubber baffle for any tears or cracks. slidi it in and out of the carb and make sure it move preety easy and doesn't jam up. then put it back together make sure you put it in the right dirrection. it should all be self explanitory and doesn't need any special tools. it is alot thow and i was hesitant to do it myself teh first time. iv done other carbs but not that one. I don't know y polaris made it so hard to get to i can't even adjust it when its on the atv. I have other stuff and i can take it on and off in a snap.
i am going to photo copy my shop manuel and put it up if i get a chance. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

just another thought, as i want to make sure it isn't something else before i think about tearing the carb apart. how do make sure that the fuel pump is working? i took off the fuel line going to the carb and gas was coming out it but didn't seem like it was presurized. it might of been just gravity fed coming out. also why is there two gas lines going to the carb?

take the fuel line off and spark plug out and crank the engine over with the electic starter and you will know if it works it pumps preety good. i have the same type om my snowmobile and it shot acrose te engine wuen it started running when i sprayed wd 40 on teh intake to lube the engine with the carb off.
