Default sportsman 400 problem

Hi i am new to this fourm and hoping some1 can help me out. i have a problem with my bike overcharging it is a 2005 sportsmen 400. The battery light keeps flashing on it while driving it. I talked talked to my dealer about it and they seem to think it is a faulty ecm,and they want me to bring it in to them to fix the problem. I bought a new battery for it thinking it was a dead cell but that wasnt the problem neither, the told me the module was around 150 cad plus labour plus another 50 bucks for gas to bring it in to them. they told me if i order the part and put it in myself they would not warranty the part if it didnt fix the problem, also there was a recall on these bikes but my serial# didnt match for the faulty ecms so know my wheeler sits in my garage with 1900 kilometers on it and scared to drive it frightned it will catch on fire. Also buy me revving it up to much i popped my highbeam headlight out.So my question is does anybody know if this is the problem or might it be something else.

thanks tazz

Default sportsman 400 problem

unfortunally your deal is right about being the ecm being bad. that stupid thing conrolls alot on the wheeler including the amount of voltage it puts out. maybe if one of the guys who works at a polaris delaer can take your ser# and double check the recall as there were alot of them that had a ecm issue. ok i checked the part number in the break down and its (4011110 Module, Controller). now this is the same part number thats in the 06' sportsman 450 as well and you dont want another one of them. the updated 07' models have part# 4011568 to replace it. hope that helps.

I heard they can catch fire sitting in the garage also!!.....So don't think it will only happen while driving it!.......
I have two Sp 450's (2006)......And in my Blue one I am on my third one(ECM),first time the quad would shut off when the lights were turned on..........And second time the cooling fan came on without the key even in it!!.......And engine was cold!!!!!.........But the funny thing is my wife's yellow one STILL has the factory one in there!!!........Any questions just ask........There is alway someone here to help.............Even if you want to put it in yourself!!!.................I can't figure Polaris out!!!...shouldn't be that hard to find one that works right all the time ............Caper..........
