awd 4x4 help

Default awd 4x4 help

i have a 1999 sportsman 500.the speedometer is bad i really dont want to buy ia new one.is there a way to rewire the hubs to make the awd work?any info would be great.

Your speedometer shouldn't have anything to do with the awd. My buddy busted his cluster bad during a roll over and his worked fine. He just had to feel to see what gear he was in and so on. Check on Bikebandit.com though for a replacement if you decide to get one. Sometimes they are quite cheap on parts.

Matt1969,

I did a bunch of research last summer cuz my speedo was bad and read a thread that talked about grounding the brown wire that goes to each of the hubs. I think if you do that you will still be able to use the 2X4 / 4x4 switch. I don't remember all the details but if you do a search you should be able to find everything you need. The other option is to check ebay for a used Speedo; the model your looking for goes for around $150.
