Buying First Quad
#21
The 500 sportsman i believe is the most popular model. It has been around for a long time and have been dependable machines.....but youll always have a few that have trouble with them. I went from an 89 warrior i owned for 3 months to a brand new 08 sportsman 500 ho(carb). I got it for $4,999, which was a good price. I opted for the carb model since efi was $1,000 more. My friends have other machines with efi and they like them, i still have good throttle response and it starts right up in -20degree MN winters, all you really need to do is let it warm up for a few minutes. I do plow with mine and it can push snow!! All in all, good machine, good price and the dealer has helped me when i needed it.....and last, since they are built here in MN....i decided to stimulate my own economy..lol

The 500 has a solid engine, and I like EFI better than my carb model. Both have their advantages. The engine is made by Fuji (Subaru) and has a great reputation. Look for a clean, preferable one-owner ATV.</end quote></div>
Actually polaris makes there own power plants at there engine shop in minnesota there was just a show about that and polaris not to long ago on fishers atv world and on dirt trax which is on the outdoor channel on mondays during the winter dirt trax turns to snow trax though. I have a 04 sportsman 700 efi and i luvv it never any problems. I think you'll love that 500 its a good solid machine.</end quote></div>
Not true. Olny the twin engines are made by Polaris. The 2 strokes and 4 strokes up to the new XP550 are made by Fugi.</end quote></div>
Very true; Then from what your sayin then both of the atv tv shows must be wrong and the interviews and tours of the plant must not be real and the articles in various atv mags i've read must be miss prints, huh. HUH !?!?!!!!

well like i said not from what i have seen and read but whatever you beleive what you want and i beleive what i've seen.</end quote></div>
On my 550 xp fuji builds the engine. Even the filter says suburu tthe parent company of fuji. I know POPO builds all their own twins including the 850. They have a suburu filter on that too.

LOL. I'm not going to quit believing what I've seen on my own ATVs for the last 12 years no matter what I read somewhere else, because what I read on the engines is, "FUJI HEAVY INDUSTRIES".

I'm looking at buying my first quad after riding dirt bikes for a few years . I live in AZ and just like seeing where the road goes nothing to crazy got tired of tipping over on my bike. I think I have settled on a Polaris Sportsman 500. I can't afford a new one but can afford a reasonably new one. I've rented what I think was an 04 model and was pretty happy and read about the 05 model which sounded even better. I'd like input about changes between the model years and if there are years to stay away from or things to look out for. There are a couple of 02 and 03s in the local trader magazine that look interesting and a fried of mine says a guy at his work is selling a 99.
Thanks much.</end quote></div>
I live in Az. as well and I would reccomend the 500 EFI if you keep your eye on craigslist you will find a lot of good deals out there especially right now.
