800 Shifter Issue
#12
I tried this after reading this post and it seems to have made mine a bit easier to shift. I've had the same problem as other have had above. It's hard to shift when running but just sometimes when it's running. Mine idles at 1120-1150ish.

I just went out and cranked mine again and when I shifted into reverse it died. I fired it back up and the gear shifter would not budge, I cut it off and the shifter would shift smooth as silk. I took the panel off and it is rubbing on the shifter rod, I guess I will try and turn it around and see if that helps. Sheepdog I tried to rock mine back and that did not help, so I dont know what else to do do if the turning of the shifter rod doesnt work. My 700 shifts great and the shifter set up looks the same, who knows. Thanks for all the help though.

Tried the rod flip, felt about the same, but was hitting panel even worse. The way mine is oriented, has the short straight closest to hand gear selector, with the long strraight at transmission. How are everyone elses?

my 08 800 seems to shift great. at least i dont have to step on the damn brake to go into high or park.
it shift about the same as my 05 700 but the 08 800 has a clip near the transmission that my friend told me pops off alot and to either zip tie it or put a hose clamp on it to keep the rod from popping out. i did the latter and havent had any problems yet.

Should've also asked, but how are rods mounted at both ends? Rod is mounted on the outside of mine, at the hand selector and transmission. Looked in a parts manual, and showed mounted on the inside at transmission, outside at hand selector. I know parts manual is not for assembly, but.......anyone?

At dealer tonight and the 08's on the floor have the linkage on the inside at the trans and outside at the shifter. Mine is on the outside at both ends. I will switch around tomorrow and post back if it help's. Hoov

Mine is outside at the shifter and inside at the transmission. Mine has an "S" bend in it so it cannot be on the outside (or inside) on both ends at the same time. When I tried switching it around, it hit the exhaust before snapping into the clips. There must be different rods for different models and years.
