Default Why the clutch covers have snorkels?

I was wondering about this. Why does the CVT clutch cover have snorkels on them? What purpose does it serve? Couldn't Polaris seal them so water wont get inside and cause belt slippage. I was thinking about plugging them up but i wasn't sure if they were used to cool the clutches or what. Im not familiar with the mechanics of the auto tranny.

well your guess is right. they made to cool the clutches. the belt in the clutches from friction builds up heat, so it needs a place to excape. try putting your hand on the clutch cover after riding a ways and see how warm it is. this is the biggest reason you are to suppose to use low while going slow so the cutches will turn fast enough to haelp keep the inside cooler.
