Default 600 Twin has coolant leak

My 600 twin has developed a coolant leak. Near as I can tell it's coming from the water pump housing area. I am hoping it's just a seal.

Anyone have this problem before? Did you fix it yourself or have a Tech do it?

Any help is appreciated.

Check your clamp on the hose that goes to the water pump first. I have heard of alot of them leaking there.

if it is coming out of the weep hole in the bottom of the water pump cover, the mechanical seal is bad. It will take about $40 and 1 hour to replace this if you are decnet with tools.

That is a know problem on the 600 Twin, I have a 2003. The original covers on the waterpumps warp and leak, there is a new cover that supercedes the original that is aluminum and wont leak.

The clamp is good and it's not leaking from the hose, but I will replace the clamp anyway.

I'm not sure about a weap hole but the fluid is definately coming out of the housing area.

I will check on the aluminum cover, I think the one thats on it is black plastic.

Thanks for all the replies, this forum is the shizznizzledizzle.

Beer Truck: I have the same machine, sure would like to know whats causing the leak. If it turns out to be the cover, is it plastic? If you fix it, is the new replacement cover aluminum? Thanks Much

OK, I took off the cover. It is plastic and has a rubber o-ring type gasket. Can't tell if it is warped but the gasket is compressed enough that it is flush with the cover, I don't see how it was ever making a seal.

I will try putting some gasket sealer on it and reinstalling. Anyone have opinion on this???
