2000 tboss noises
#1
hey all, i have a 00 tboss thats kinda makin some wierd noises..... first off when you take off under acceleration there is a loud clicking/rapping noise........ the chain seems kinda loose but i took some advice off the board and tightened it once and then left it alone... so is there a chain tensioner available for it? the second noise is just when its idling after its warm i can hear like a squeaking noise, is this the oil cooler fan? i have never heard it run before.... the bike might have 500 miles on it.. also the steering seems kinda loose is that the stem bushing?

As for the clicking noise, it is probably the chain catching on the sprocket. My wifes was doing this on a ride. When I got it home, I cleaned the chain up real good and put it on blocks and rotated the wheels real slow until I could isolate the problem. I found that the master link had been damaged (wife likes to run over large rocks). I replaced it and its been fine ever since. The key is to isolate the problem to a specific link or sprocket tooth and then go from there.
As for the squeak, its hard to tell from your description. It may be in the clutch or in the oil cooler fan. Until you can isolate it though, its tough to tell.
As for the steering being loose, it is the plastic steering stem bushing. The rivets don't last very long and then it gets loose. I plan on replacing mine with an aftermarket one from RCR or HPD in the spring. Only cost around $35 and is a permanent fix.
By the way, have you had your oil lines replaced with the new style? Be sure to get it done if you have not already done so. Hope all of this helps.

Bill I had the same problem with my 2000 trailboss. It turned out that from running my chain to loose I trashed the sprocket as for the squeeking check and make sure you dont have any mud or dirt in the oil cooler fan hope this helps
